Sungrow Launches Advanced Energy Storage in South Africa

Next-Gen C&I ESS Solutions

Johannesburg, South Africa, Nov 18, 2025 – Sungrow, a globally renowned PV inverter and energy storage system supplier, presented its latest low and medium-voltage solutions tailored for the commercial and industrial energy storage sector at the C&I Summit in Johannesburg. The event drew over 200 partners and industry specialists, who gathered to explore the new offerings and share perspectives on market trends.

South Africa’s energy grid remains heavily reliant on coal, which accounts for approximately 85% of electricity generation. Persistent load shedding, however, continues to hamper commercial activities and economic development, driving numerous businesses—particularly in the C&I segment—to adopt solar power paired with energy storage systems for greater reliability.

At the summit, Sungrow rolled out a suite of advanced C&I ESS products designed to meet rising demand for affordable and dependable energy. These systems are positioned to support South Africa’s shift toward cleaner energy while helping lower carbon emissions and encouraging sustainable growth.

AC Coupling Solution: Retrofit-Ready Design
Ideal for clients with existing PV inverters, the AC coupling solution offers scalable capacity options of 257 kWh (2-hour duration) or 514 kWh (4-hour duration) in a cabinet format. Built around Sungrow’s AC Block architecture, the system achieves a round-trip efficiency of roughly 90%. It accommodates 100% single-phase unbalanced load without requiring an isolation transformer, helping reduce total cost. Advanced liquid cooling also contributes to a projected system lifespan exceeding 12 years.

DC Coupling Solution: Modular and Adaptable
The DC coupling alternative supports multiple layout arrangements, enabling flexible installation to match varying site conditions. It allows for increased PV panel integration, boosting overall efficiency. A patented pressure relief mechanism prevents lid dislodgement, while pack-level replacement streamlines maintenance, shortening downtime and lowering the levelized cost of energy. An upcoming modular battery series, PowerKeeper ST050CF, will further enhance capacity scalability and support long-duration storage.

Medium Voltage Solution: Integrated and Intelligent
For clients with elevated power demands and higher grid voltage requirements, the PowerTitan 2.0 solution offers enhanced profitability, safety, and eco-efficiency. Its specialized design raises discharge capacity by 8% and uses AI-driven thermal management to cut auxiliary consumption by 45%. With 80% of commissioning completed off-site, the AC Block configuration enables quicker grid connection and faster ROI. A four-tier safety framework—covering prevention, detection, suppression, and protection—ensures operational security.

A panel discussion featuring Sungrow experts and industry leaders examined shifting value perceptions, market barriers, and policy incentives necessary to accelerate C&I ESS adoption across South Africa.
